The Verse Heard Around the World

Who would have thought a hip hop verse would set off a internet fire storm!? It’s unbelievable who and how many people are responding to Kendrick Lamar’s latest “Control” verse.

So far everyone from Joel Ortiz to Lindsay Lohan’s dad are chiming in with their responses to his recent controversial verse in Big Sean’s latest new song “Control”.

What this controversy is proving is that Kendrick Lamar is legit on the rise, like for real – his star is shining. Why do I say this? Because:

1) His music is topping the charts - his track Bitch Don’t Kill my Vibe is currently 82nd on Spotify & his songs have landed on the Billboard charts for consecutive weeks at a time.

2) He has me, probably you, the majority of Hip Hop fans, Lindsay Lohan’s dad, and NON-Hip Hop fans listening to his sh*t!

His star status is only reinforced with this week’s controversy. In fact, I would say this controversy will bring in more fans who are looking to find out the all this hoop-la was supposed to be about – a marketing win-win in my book.

Now getting back to the lyrics – I see no reason in the first place why everyone is up in arms – there is nothing wrong with a little competition. Sure Lamar could have limited the number of names he called out and I do not agree with him 100% but bring your beef into the studio. As long as this competition stays on pads of paper and not on the streets I’m good with it – competition is just part of the business.
